Frequently Asked Questions

The following questions and answers consist of a list of the most common questions we receive from our customers. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

What causes the flames to be different colours?

It’s a natural process!  Our Rainbow Moments colour flame candles and lamps contain organic salts, inorganic salts and safe metals such as magnesium that create the colour flames when they are burnt off.

How do I achieve the best colour flame effect from my Rainbow Moments Candles?

The crystals that create the colour flames are only burnt off when the wick reaches a certain temperature, so for best results:

  • Be patient a moment or two so the flame gets hot enough!
  • Never break, trim or cut the wick of the tea lights and make sure you follow our wick trimming instructions for the tapers which also require you never break, cut or trim the wick to a length shorter than 1.8 cm!
  • To help the wick reach that certain temperature, it is very important to angle the wick slightly to one side and the colour flame will appear!
  • Do not forget to dim the lights!

What are the candles made of?

The candles are not made of wax. They are made of a combination of the specials salts and metals that make the colour flame, a bonding agent that keeps the candles strong and the main ingredient consists of citric acid crystals such as those used in food preservatives and children’s toys.

Why must I not break the tea light wicks and never trim the taper wicks to a length shorter than 1.8 cm?

The specials salts and metals only begin to burn and cause the colour flame when the wick is hot enough. If you have cut, trimmed or broken the wick of the candles to a length shorter than 1.8 cm, the wick will take longer to reach the right temperature.

What precautions should I take to avoid breaking the wicks?

When the wicks cool they will harden so do not try to put them back into the packaging.

The colours of the flames tend to change when they are exposed to be a breeze. Is this normal?

Occasionally draughts may affect the colour of the flame as a breeze may cool the wick. Breezes will also shorten the burning time of the candle.

Will my child be able to blow out the party candles easily?

Our colour flames will not be the only thing bringing a smile to your child’s face! Unlike many party candles showing up in the market today, our Rainbow Moments party candles are easy to blow out making sure your child can blow them out with one breath when making his or her birthday wish!

Will the tapered dinner candles drip?

The candles may occasionally drip after the midway point. However, if they do, any drips or splashes can be removed by placing a warm, damp cloth against the drip for 3-5 minutes.

TOP

What happens if I spill the candle on my clothes?

Just soak the cloth for 3-5 minutes in water (preferably warm water) and the crystals will dissolve since they are water soluble!

TOP

What happens if the candle spills on to a table top or surface?

If you do spill a candle don’t worry. Unlike conventional candles though, the ‘wax’ will not peel off. You will find it goes hard. Do not try to chip it off as you may damage the surface beneath it. Simply take a cloth, dampen it in warm water and leave it over the spill for approximately 5 minutes. The crystals will dissolve and simply wipe away.

Are your candles environmentally friendly?

These candles do not contain any form of wax, animal or petroleum based paraffin. There are no known environmental side effects.

TOP

Are Rainbow Moments colour flame candles toxic and performance safe?

The candles are non-toxic.  They have been tested by Health Canada recognized labs against relevant Canadian and North American standards and have passed all tests.  In addition, they have been successfully tested by international testing agencies in Europe and Asia against European toy, water soluble and other standards.  Although, all our candles have passed all relevant testing standards, we strongly recommend you follow the label warnings!

Can I eat them?

We recommend you eat the cake not the candles!

TOP

Can I relight my candles?

You can relight your candles. However, the tea lights are hard to relight for two reasons and we recommend you do not blow them out and try to relight them later as you may be disappointed.  Firstly, as mentioned above, the wicks harden after lighting and can easily break. Furthermore, unlike wax, when the candle body melts the liquid is heavy and does not travel up the wick easily. So when you blow it out there is little fuel left in the wick to catch a flame with.

Is the colour flame lamp fluid (Liquide) toxic?

The lamp fluid consists mainly of glycol, an alcohol that should not be ingested.  We have taken certain precautions to avoid ingestion such as seals and child safety caps, however, you must keep this out of reach of children and pets. In the event of accidental ingestion, please contact your emergency medical centre immediately.

TOP

What happens if I get the lamp fluid on me or if I spill it?

In the event you get some of the lamp fluid on your hands, in order to avoid any mild irritation simply wash them with warm soapy water.  In the event of a spill simply mop it up with a wet cloth and rinse the affected surface with plenty of water.

Can I use any wick for the Liquide lamps?

The lamp fluid is not kerosene and accordingly needs to be burnt with the wicks provided to you in our packaging.

TOP

Are the Liquide lamps refillable?

(3/8ths of an inch) from the top of the bottle.  The wicks must be placed in the fluid and left to absorb the fluid for at least five minutes prior to lighting. Leave the wick 1 cm.
